Q: How do I install mods? A: Copy the files into your Fallout 3/Data folder. Open Fallout 3 Launcher. Click 'Data files' and check the checkbox(es) of your mods. Q: Does this mod require FOSE, other mods, or DLC? A: Yes, version beta 0.1c and up requires FOSE! Also requires ArchiveInvalidation Invalidates or similar utility!
Q: I'd like to report bugs. A: Do it on the Bugs Forum. Make sure that your bug isn't already reported. Q: My village is running out of resources, my villagers are unhappy, raiders are raiding, ... A: Please, this is a serious mod. This is not the kind of mod you can play without worries. You have to build and recruit carefully. Q: Can't you help me? A: In the future we will include a walkthrough and a readme. For now, post questions on the forum. Also be sure to ALWAYS read descriptions! Q: I have a Uber Super Duper Awesome Fucking Cool Splendid Superb Idea! A: The Suggestions Forum Please use the Search function to see if your idea isn't posted already before you post your own Uber Super ... Idea. Q: My villagers think they can walk trough walls, but they can't! A: This is an unfixable NavMesh issue. NavMesh is some sort of field that tells the NPC's where they can walk and where they can't walk. Unfortunately this can't be fixed in-game. So your villagers think they can walk trough walls, because they don't know there's a wall. Q: What's all this about some v82? A: v82 is the last stable version of The Settler, before RTS. It is completely functional, and can be downloaded at Fallout 3 Nexus. It is completely diffirent from RTS. Q: I'd like to contribute to this mod, but I'm no modder. A: We need suggestions, bug reports, videos, music, textures, meshes, ideas, PR and other stuff too. There's surely something you can do. We appriciate your help. Q: I have a question that isn't listed here. A: Contact us.
Q) I have loaded RTS but nothing happens. ----------------------------------------- When you start a game you get, "RTS has initialized". That message lets you know that RTS is running, and everything has started. If you are in a world exterior cell, instead of interior cell, you should be able to see Arcoolka, DJ and Bib-lost very soon. The NPCs do not show up indoors, they only walk up to you if you are outside. Q) I don't have enough villagers or villagers slots. ---------------------------------------------------- You turn beggars into villagers. Beggars only come to your village if you have a free villager slot for them. They arrive at the mailbox then wander around your village. Target your shelter and press and hold 'C' for 3 seconds. There is an option to upgrade the shelter. The first upgrade is to increase happines, the second upgrade adds two free villager slots for new beggars. Or, you could build another shelter to get more villager slots. Maximum four shelters per village for this release. Village cap starts at 12, shelter upgrades bring it to 20. If you cast out a beggar, that scares off new beggars for 3 or 4 days. Q) How do I quickly raise Happiness? ------------------------------------ Building mattresses only requires scrap material, and is instant. Each one gives 0.25 happiness. You will need lots of them. Or you could blueprint a table/chair, but that requires craftsmen. Or you could goto the happiness menu and host a celebration, only costs caps. Assigning two soldiers will offset the unhappiness of one villager. Q) What is my maximum village range and how can I increase it? -------------------------------------------------------------- The range starts off at 2000, and you pay caps to extend it another 1000. Each time you extend the range, the cost goes up. This is accessed from the mailbox. 120k caps only got me upto 17000 range. Q) What is a good place to build my village? -------------------------------------------- possible locations for building a village http://fo3settler.webs.com/apps/forums/topics/show/689520-possible-locations-for-building-a-village Possible (Dangerous) Village Locations http://fo3settler.webs.com/apps/forums/topics/show/1120953-possible-dangerous-village-locations Q) Where do I get more building materials/scrap materials? ---------------------------------------------------------- Searchers bring in 3 ScrapMaterial and 5 BuildingMaterial each day. If you have built a brahmin pen , they bring in 9 ScrapMaterial and 10 BuildingMaterial. If you have builders you can assign a Geodesist construction site to salvage materials. Or you can manually help them. Pick up an item with your 'Z' key on your keyboard. Press and hold 'C' for 3 seconds to open the recycle menu. Building Materials for recycling -------------------------------- traffic cone tire shopping cart barrel car parts Car wheel Shopping carts and tires : Super Duper Mart and Robot repair center. A few tires and items in front of Megaton, and back of Springvale school, around springvale. --Traffic cones at Jury Street metro station. --DCinteriors has tons of stuff. or player.placeatme 1d357 20 (will give you 20 shopping carts) or activate your controller> RTS's Options>Troubleshooting>Refresh Resources Faster completion of Collect Building materials quest Q) Where do I get more metal plates or iron rods to build my village defenses. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Target your Storage house and press and hold 'C' for three seconds. To get more construction items (iron rods, plates, etc) either assign searchers, or raze a building/rubble pile/construction site. Searchers will bring in construction items if you have a Brahmin shed. Q) Where do I get hammers? Surgical tubing? ------------------------------------------- These are items from the vanilla game. They are all over the place. Q) I can't get DJ to start the first shelter construction project. ---------------------------------------------------------- Talk to DJ, assign as a builder. Dj walks to mailbox, changes clothes. Return to Arcoolka, wait for conversation instructions. Pop-up message, says shelter blueprint is on Bess. Open Bess's Inventory. Retrieve Blueprint. Select Blueprint. Select Start Project. Wait for message, "Project was successfully loaded into Construction set." Press and hold 'C' for 3 seconds. If DJ cannot reach the mailbox, he will not change clothes and not become a builder. If the project is above ground level or not touching a navmesh area, you may need to use console commands to drag DJ to the construction site. There is also a speed up construction option, and help builder option that might help you past that point. Q) How do I give armor/weapons to my villagers? ----------------------------------------------- Talk to your advisor, he will give you armor/weapons blueprints. Have your craftsmen make the item, then you may give 'copies' of your armor to your villagers. Q) I have a ton of gear saved up, can I give that to them instead? ------------------------------------------------------------------ Dropping gear into an armory store has been requested several times. You may just want to use Sharing and Caring Companions mod to equip your villagers for now. This may be in the next release. Q) The Geodesist project never completes. ---------------------------------------- A lot of people are having problems with geodetic projects. I know of two bugs/workarounds so far: 1) When you start a geo project you MUST shoot the geo tool with the laser gun. Something funky there, don't skip that step. 2) When resting/waiting a day, give RTS a few seconds to finish showing all the messages and updating the counters before you wait another day. If you don't wait, the day counter can become negative, therefore the project day counter never reaches zero and never completes. A number of people are also reporting that this bug occurs after creating the enterable Academy building. Q) How do I cancel a geodesist project? --------------------------------------- Lots of people are requesting to cancel projects. It's on the list. Q) The Geodesist project is finished, but some builders are still there and won't come back. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Package xx043200 sometimes doesn't remove. Use console commands to remove it. This allows them to join the next raze project. A number of people are also reporting that this bug occurs after creating the enterable Academy building. Q) How do I use console commands? That code didn't work. --------------------------------------------------------- In FOMM there is a number next to RTS. Replace xx with that number. example: 00)Fallout3.esm 01)JessiCompanion.esp 02)Anchorage.esm 03)ThePitt.esm 04)BrokenSteel.esm 05)RTS.esm 06)RobCo Certified.esp 07)RobCo Storage Module.esp 08)Mezz100percent.esp 09)BriannaCompanion.esp So if the code is xx043200 and the RTS mod is (05) you would target the builder and type in : removeitem 05043200 1 Q) I am missing a blueprint, how do I get it back? ------------------------------------------------- junkwall xx052939 barrack xx069605 crows nest xx005888 grave yard xx069cc1 hospital xx069601 market xx0695f8 monument xx069cc2 shelter xx068f4f training area xx069609 turret xx014343 wind turbine xx069cbd But be warned, the shelters are numbered in the scripts. Trying to build more than 4 shelters may cause CTD or weird bugs. Same for the crows nest. Q) How do I pick up a car/wall/building? --------------------------------------- Target it with your crosshair, press and hold 'C' for three seconds. Q) I can't pick up this car to use as a wall. -------------------------------------------- If you have already shot/blown up the car, you need to target one of the debris items. Such as a door or hood. Q) I can't pick up this table/chair. ----------------------------------- Some items must be blueprinted and built. Use the 'B' key to make a blueprint. Q) Can you build in Point Lookout or just in the Capital Wasteland? ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Yes, you can build anywhere, just not indoors or underground. Q) I can't build the Out Post, it says I'm too far, but I'm standing in my village. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Task: Build Out Post Open Outpost Storage. Retrieve materials. Build outpost nearby. This is for Arcoolka to guard. The outpost is supposed to be built next to the razing site. Not near the village. Soldiers can be told to guard the outpost, bada bing, guard the builders at the construction site. In this case, Arcoolka will guard the builders. Q) I've built all these stairs and upper floors, and my villagers never use them. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The constructed items do not come with their own Navmesh, so you're villagers don't know how to walk up them. Arcoolka is working on it. He has fences/walls working so far. Q) I have the Life_of_Raider_Addon installed but I can't join the Paradise Falls parental system. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ You need to equip raider armor and act like a raider. The raider armor acts as a disguise. It adds you to the raider faction. But if you attack raiders, it quits working for awhile. Same as if you wandered around Megaton shooting up people, the Megaton citizens would hate you. So to make it work properly, you have to wear raider armor, and not kill raiders. Q) How do I rotate something? ---------------------------- Hold the X or Y key while presssing the mouse buttons. Q) I pressed the buttons and the item just zooms in and out. ----------------------------------------------------------- Press the jump/space bar to toggle the zoom mode function. Q) How do I re-train my villager? -------------------------------- You must first build an Academy to unlock that feature. Q) Where do I get Science points? -------------------------------- Hire some Scientists at the Academy or deposit a Pre-war book into the Academy storage. Q) My villagers aren't using the idle markers. --------------------------------------------- The idle / wander marker is invisible. You can't force villagers to use it. If they aren't busy working, and are in range, there is a random chance they will use it. If you build a chair or mattress, they come with their own idle markers and villagers will use them under the same rules. Mattress have an additional time-of-day restriction on sleeping. Q) I recycled a robot and got food instead of scrap. ---------------------------------------------------- Yes, it's on the list, but low priority. Q) Where do I get butterflies, callgirls and diamonds/luxuries for Republic of Dave? ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ This is an in-mod joke by Arcoolka, there aren't any luxuries. Q) I can't use my caps to expand the village, but I have tons. -------------------------------------------------------------- The Megaton parental system prevents you from using your personal caps for village uses. Switch to a different parental system, use your caps, then switch back to Megaton if you want. Q) How do I make an enterable building? A number of people are also reporting that a bug occurs after creating the enterable Academy building. That is, Geodetic projects no longer reach completion and builders never return home. Your building probably has black holes where the doors should be. console command player.placeatme 78578 1 Be very, very careful where you are standing when you summon the boarded up door. It leaves behind an invisible collision object. You may want to tcl inside some other object before you summon the wood planks. Unpack the Geodesist tool from Bessie. Currently, the only implemented option is Academy. If you don't need a buiding and only want the door, you can start at the console command step. A number of people are also reporting that a bug occurs after creating the enterable Academy building. That is Geodetic projects no longer reach completion and builders never return home. updated version HERE
---------------------------------------
If you do not already have a boarded up building in your village radius:
Take or blueprint a ruined building.
Place it in your village radius.
Unpack Geodetic tool from Bess.
Wave it through the house.
Confirm that you wish to 'Mark object for reconstruction'.
Assign builders to the reconstruction project.
Open the 'C' menu, start the project.
Out Post is provided at the site.
Build the outpost.
Wait another day.
Building is renovated.
This gives you the boarded up wooden planks.
Pass the Geodesist tool through the wooden planks.
You will get the option to make an enterable building.
Rotate and place your door.
